We hope you had a great holiday and are off to a fabulous start to 2020!! Resolutions are at the top of mind this time of year. One of ours is to get on a regular schedule with our blog. Thankfully, we've had a couple of successful years with our real estate business. We did, however, find ourselves getting away from posting to our website. Starting this year, we are aiming to post weekly, and one of our weekly posts will provide a [monthly] general market update (typically coming in the 3rd week of the month). You can always contact us for a market update specific to where you own your home or an area in which you may be interested in purchasing.
For now, we'd like to share an article that our very own Shane Collins wrote in late 2019, which touches on personalities. We are in the people business, and building lasting relationships is what we strive to do. See the article below, and as always, feel free to reach out to us anytime. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you!
The Many Faces of Real Estate
The real estate world is full of variety. Each and every day, I encounter human beings, each with their own unique flair. To say I see people with every level of personality type imaginable is no understatement. They range from analytical, super rational, non-rational, clueless, obnoxious, scared, and the really fun and terrifying type—as in, where is your straitjacket, and should I be worried? Occasionally, I get a mix of all of the above, and it really keeps me and my team on our toes. It can be a challenge handling clients that are outside the scope of a “stereotypical normal” thought process. I take it head-on as I do my real estate business and like the challenges that personality types offer. If you don’t mix a little or at least understand your client’s personality type, you may not work well together. With all of humanity, initial meetings are not always as they seem. The more you get to know a client or your broker, the more you may understand that every single circumstance can require a different method of coaching, speaking, guiding, etc.
When you are going to meet with a broker for the first time, I suggest being yourself, laying all the cards out, and getting to know each other's personality before you go make a large personal and financial decision with someone you may not identify well with. You don’t have to be a perfect match—heck, maybe the opposite of you is what you need for a counterbalance. Relatively, most of us are somewhat normal, some not so much, and there is the in-the-middle variety. Which one would you like to work with? We have a personality for all here at our firm minus the straitjacket type. I would like to think that dealing with a variety of all humans over my lifetime and my career as a REALTOR has given me a depth of personality able to cope with most clients. Give me a call; let’s have a laugh, be real, be serious, talk real estate, and figure out what works best for all of us. Life is short—live, love, laugh, and keep it real. And of course, call me for all your real estate needs.
